SUMMARY 

Responsible for teaching and guiding new medical scribes on the proper techniques and procedures for accurately documenting patient information during clinical encounters. They can effectively assist healthcare providers while maintaining high standards of quality and patient confidentiality. Acts as a mentor to new scribes to develop their skills and competency in the role. 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Medical scribe trainer shall be responsible to train/groom assigned trainees/medical scribes in batches. 
  • Shall be responsible to conduct baseline and shadow shift training
  • Shall be able to provide appropriate verbal as well as written feedback to the candidates. 
  • Shall work with other trainers and managers to constantly develop and improve the training curriculum. 
  • Shall be responsible for conducting observation shifts for scribes that are not meeting the standard. 

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED - min of 1-year experience directly related experience.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that is above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of legal and policy constraints pertaining to patient billing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of auditing concepts and principles.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to analyze complex medical records.
  • Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and safety, and/or infection control standards
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Knowledge of current and developing issues and trends in medical coding procedures requirements.
  • Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
  • Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners and/or the general public.
  • Ability to relay technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.

 

 

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  1. Body Positions: Sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
  2. Body Movements: Arm and hand dexterity.
  3. Body Senses: Must have command of close and distant sight, color perception and hearing.
  4. Strength:  Ability to lift and move up to 25-pounds.

 

Working Environment:

 

1.Work in an office, where the climate is controlled.

 

2. OSHA exposure category: II

  • Category I – Position includes tasks that involve exposure to Blood borne Pathogens.
  • Category II – Position includes tasks that do not have exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, however employment may require unplanned Category I tasks.
  • Category III – Positions includes tasks that do not involve exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens.  This position would not be required to perform Category I tasks.
